About

Portrait of Prescott Tong

Bio

Prescott Tong is a Chinese Vietnamese American artist based in Los Angeles whose work moves freely between realism and pop art. Art pulled him in early. Growing up in the suburbs of Portland, Oregon, he rarely went anywhere without a sketchbook, and he knew from the start that he wanted a life built around making things.

Today, Prescott mixes pop culture, history, and a sharp satirical streak to question the stories we tell ourselves. Whether he's rendering a scene with careful realism or turning it into bold pop imagery, his work pulls back the glossy surface of everyday culture to ask what we really value underneath.

For Prescott, art is both personal expression and an open conversation. He wants viewers to react, push back, and bring their own experiences to the work. In sharpening his own voice, he hopes to encourage others to find theirs.

How I work

Prescott works mostly with hands-on materials: oil, acrylic, markers, and spray paint.

Most pieces begin with a single image in his head, sparked by a photo or a memory. From there, it's all about execution, and the timeline depends on the piece. His oil and acrylic paintings take anywhere from a week to several months, while his dot paintings on canvas take one week to a month. "They're exhausting, tedious, and genuinely painful for my hand," he says. "But that labor and discipline, the slow repetition of painting dot after dot, is essential to what those pieces are about."
